attention, please?
Pri - Silence, guys. They are going to announce the winner.
Mr. Nissin - After a great deal of time discussing who provided
the best performance of the night, it is with great joy…
Lu - Wait a minute. I recognize this voice. It is… No…
That can’t be… It’s Mr. Nissin Hara.
Mr.
Nissin - … that I announce
the winner of the Tenth Annual World Dancing Festival.
Lu - IT IS HIM. OMG. I LOVE HIM.
Mr.
Nissin - And the winner is… from Brazil.
Gabi - Jonathan???
Amanda - We don’t know. There are three dancers from Brazil.

Everybody is screaming, jumping, hugging and kissing each

Mr. Nissin - Ladies and
gentlemen. I am so sorry to interrupt this wonderful moment, but I have an
announcement to make.
Lu - Guys, silence. Mr. Nissin Hara is speaking.
Mr.
Nissin - Is there any Luciane Maria da Silva in the crowd?
Lu - Did he say my name?
Mr. Nissin - Luciane Maria da Silva.
Lu starts waving...
Lu - Here. Right here.
Mr.
Nissin - Please, Luciane. We need you here on the stage.
After 10 minutes, Luciane finally arrives at the
stage. The first thing she does is to hug Mr. Nissin Hara. A looong hug.
Lu - Mr. Nissin. I am so glad you’re here.
Mr.
Nissin - Me too. Ladies and gentlemen, may I have a little
bit more of your attention, please.
Silence…
Mr. Nissin - I have by my
side one of the greatest women I have ever known.
Lu - Mr. Nissin.
Mr. Nissin -Yes, Lu. You are. Well, as everybody knows, I am not
Brazilian. I am Lebanese. I have a great connection with Brazil, but I also
have a great connection with the USA. In 1958 I carried boxes in the streets of
this very city. One day, my uncle who lived in Brazil needed help so I moved to
Cidade Maravilhosa, also known as Rio de Janeiro. After some years I opened a
small factory of panties in Bom Retiro, in São Paulo. Today this small factory
is Hope.
Lu -
Oh Mr. Nissin.
Lu hugs Mr. Nissin again…
Mr. Nissin - Well, enough
of me. I am not here to talk about me. I am here to talk about this brave
woman. This stupendous professional. This great mother. This wonderful
daughter. It is funny how society tries to diminish the importance of a woman.
A woman is not JUST a woman. A woman is
many persons: a woman is first a daughter and then a mother. If you think about
it, a woman never stops playing with dolls: when she is young she plays with
plastic dolls, and when she gets old she plays with dolls made by flesh-and-bones.
A woman is a girlfriend, a wife, a mother, a partner, a teacher (who’s a better
teacher than a mother), a businessman, a boss, a president. The women have
grown wings and have left the comfort of their homes to conquer the world. They
have decided that they needed more., that they could do more. And you know
what? They can. They can, like many chauvinists Brazilians says, pilot the
stove, but they also can pilot a country, like many women do around the world,
inclusive in Brazil. With all these responsibilities, you may think that a
woman must be brutal, hard. Well, it’s quite the opposite. Thank God they still
are tender. They are lovely. They are caring. They still can after a busy day
get home and kiss the husband, the kids, cook, talk about work. Are there
exceptions? Of course there are. But they are exceptions. Luciane is no
different. She has great responsibilities. She works hard. I know that. But I
also know she is a wonderful student. A friendly classmate. An amazing
daughter. A great mother. She is sensitive. She is kind. She is intelligent.
She is sensitive. Well, I want to invite all her classmates who study with her
at Wise Up to give her a bear hug.
Everybody stands up and gives Lu a bear hug
Mr. Nissin - Well, I want now to make a proposal. I want you Lu
to be our CEO here in New York City. What do you say?
Lu - New York? Hmmm… I don’t know.
Pri - Quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii… you don’t know. Tá
loka. It’s NY. She accepts,
Mr. Nissin.
Lu - Ok.
Pri -
Oh My God. I will come to New York every year.
Lucas - Lu,
we have something for you.
Everybody sings “Please don’t go”
The End
